GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM

Playup was thrilled to be ionvolved with the recent TV series aired on the SBS in Australia called GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM. This incredibly well received series Six ordinary Australians agree to challenge their preconceived notions about refugees and asylum seekers by embarking on a confronting 25-day journey. Tracing in reverse the journeys that refugees have taken to reach Australia, they travel to some of the most dangerous and desperate corners of the world, with no idea what is in store for them along the way. Playup licensed tracks by artist PRAVANA to the series.

Hancock Basement join Playup

Playup is pumped to welcome from Canberra Australia, indie-poppers Hancock Basement. This is super hot and catchy Indie pop! Formed at ANU campus (and named after an infamous university campus lovespot), Hancock Basement have played with a ridiculous number of on-the-pulse international and national acts with their bombastic live show and they have sold out venues in their own right around Australia. This is witty and irresistible bouncy pop, very now and uber hip ! LISTEN

Fox hunt part 2 - Carl Fox - Chunky Rainbow

2010 brings a new style of music for Aussie Carl Fox. His album, Chunky Rainbow was written, recorded and mixed in his home studio and reveals tales of utopian dreams, magical places, and his experiences during a one-year journey through Switzerland.  Pegged as indietronica or “twee electro indie-pop” by Triple J Home and Hosed presenter Dom Alessio, the album is an interesting mix of live instrumentation and electronics. Songs are minimal and raw, breaking-out into beautiful melodies and melancholic instrumentals. Carl Fox plays live as a five-piece made up of members from his indie band Good Little Fox and dance-rockers Luna Parade.

Hell city Glamours ....Hell Yeah !

Sydney Australia's Hell City Glamours have been dolling out rock 'n' roll headaches of the good kind around Australia for the last seven years both as headliners and as support for some of the world's biggest names, including Paul Stanley, Sebastian Bach, New York Dolls and many more. Their four on the floor AC/DC style aussie rock is right on the money and we are fists in the air to have them on Playup !

LISTEN

3eme Sexe - Hot and Steamy at Playup!

3EME SEXE (troisième sexe) brings a new sound to electro pop, and this is pure analog! By using minimal recording techniques and only the real hand-played vintage stuff, (analog keyboards, synths, effects), rock 'n' roll guitars, and stewardess-like vocals, 3EME SEXE creates an anarchistic universe influenced by sixties beat, sweet seventies pop, Yé-Yé, and French Chanson. Its a vibrant and ultra sexy sound from a very hip and chic new Denmark band - yeah baby !     LISTEN

Foxx on fire at Playup

Foxx on Fire - hailing from Melbourne Australia - make sharp sexy dance-rock: think Roxy Music getting kinky on Rapture's space yacht! They have released some killer E.P's with fun, quirky twisted lyrics and cosmic-inspired melodies!

Playup welcomes the The Melismatics

The Melismatics formed at the turn of the century in the fertile ground of the Minneapolis indie-rock scene and have been delivering albums with a sound all their own that is familiar yet unique, euphoric and adventurous...as The Onion put it, “no one ever accused The Melismatics of being predictable.” As students of rock history, they have taken the best elements of the past and mixed them with their own modern vision; They fuse such influences as  The Jesus And Mary Chain, The Kinks and  The Cars. Their current single "Digging Deep" is gettin much play on MTV in the USA !

Very Diplomatic at Playup

The Diplomats of Solid Sound deliver super funky spicy soul music ! This hardworking band from Iowa USA make killer records that make you move sweat and strut -  and Playup's got a brand new bag of em !

Declan and the Antics join Playup !

Playup welcomes Declan and the Antics whose debut album  "All my friends" is simply a  brilliant party album with awesome upbeat dance/pop songs. Tracks such as  "Born for the Nightlife" and "Girls don't like boys" are uber catchy 80's inspired gems with plenty of beats, synths, rockin guitar  and loads of attitude and flair.

The Good China join the good Playup!

Put eight strangers in a room with a swag of instruments and a few half-written songs and you might expect a clash of egos and temper tantrums. Instead, the result is an exceptionally unique indie-pop troupe  called The Good China. This new Aussie outfit could perhaps be described as a cross between Arcade Fire and Architecture in Helsinki. The track "All nothing" from their killer debut EP "Old Maps/new Roads" is an absolute cracker and we haven't stopped spinning it here at Playup !

Warm up to The Shivers

New York experimental folk outfit The Shivers make beautiful and intriguing music. It’s quirky and honest, confronting and real. There is something very different and magical about The Shivers music, it takes you to a strange quirky but endearing place. There is so much depth to their albums and we are playing them over and over in the Playup office.

Ssssshhhh ! - THE PSS PSS are coming to get you !

"Tired of living in the country"  is the debut album of the Stuttgart/St.Louis/Paris based band (yep!) : THE PSS PSS. They have already had chart success with this killer album of electro pop. This is an uber cool 10 tracks of biting chilling and seductive electronica. Playup is tingling all over to welcome The Pss Pss and we will never be tired of living in their country !!!

Playup welcomes The Maladies.

Hailing from Sydney Australia, The Maladies inventive take on folk-rooted rock n roll swings wildly between erratic guitar noise, shrieking vocals and driving swamp beats, to chain gang antiphony and haunting traditional melody. “With You Right By My Side, Baby The Deal Just Can’t Go Down” is the debut album for The Maladies and packs plenty of punch, easily considered one of the finest Australian albums of 2009.

Playup LOVES Darren Sylvester

We are in love with Darren Sylvester’s debut self titled album. It is genius stuff, and we are not the only ones loving it – reviews have been glowing. Taking musical cues drifting from latter day Roxy Music, The Cars and Berlin-era Bowie, through to Phil Spector produced John Lennon, this is a beautifully suave album. Darren wrote, recorded and produced everything on the record and we have been playing it over and over round here and we're just peachy to have him on our party train. The melodramatic and witty flare to the cruzy art-pop tracks on this album is simply bliss.

Pez joins Playup

From the shadows of Australia’s hip-hop underground steps one of the brightest local talents to emerge in years – 24-year-old emcee Perry Chapman aka Pez – delivers his stunning debut album A Mind Of My Own,  and Playup is thrilled to have him aboard.  Pez is already a legend in the scene and has accomplished much : his track “the festival song” was No. 7 on the Triple J Hottest 100, No. 1 on AIR 100% Indie Singles chart, No. 11 on ARIA Australian Singles chart, No. 11 on ARIA Urban Singles chart  and has had over 1 million+ plays on MySpace!!!  Hell yeah !!!!

Seth on it

Playup is pumped to welcome Seth Sentry, the 25 year old MC who has emerged from Melbourne Australia’s live hip hop scene. With the November release of his highly-anticipated debut EP, The Waiter Minute, Seth Sentry has a busy summer ahead. Truly independent and self-funded, Seth delivers his outlook on life with his hypnotic voice and impeccable flow.

Playup welcomes C.J. Dolan

Vetern producer C.J. Dolan joins Playup . C.J's projects include Quench (the massive dance anthem Dreams) and he was co-producer of The Winston Giles Orchestra. His collection of cruisy chill-out anthems that form the album Cinematic Adventures by Snazzy Snail are also delightful electronica cherubs.

comin down the mountain

Halfway through their current USA tour the Whiskey Go Go’s have decided to change their name. Apparently they got fed up of linkage to the famous sunset strip bar of the same name, so we will now know them as……… “OUR MOUNTAIN”. Ok…as long as there is a bar on that mountain we’re sure the boys will be fine.

Playup welcomes The Genie

New dub/electro/fusion outfit: The Genie, have just completed a rippin hot album with electronic music producer Josh Abrahams and have just joined the Playup family.  The Genie is Ollie McGill (organ), Ryan Monro (bass) and Will Hull-Brown (drums): perhaps better known as the rhythm section from the hugely successful Aussie band the Cat Empire. The Genie delivers a smooth and adventurous style of experimental trip hop/jazz/fusion. It’s a quirky, chic and classy sound, very cool and very very unique.

Playup welcomes The Sand Pebbles

The glorious and genius (and soon to be huge) the Sand Pebbles have joined the Playup family. The band make incredible psychadelic indie rock ! There's really no-one out there doing it like the Sand Pebbles, they have a world all their own.
